One thing I am proud NOT to be a true believer in!

I had not thought of them in that context. As "believers." I just thought of them as wrong.

I think maybe, if it's possible, I like them less now.

It struck me that while leaders like Bush and McCain may well be among the most misguided people in the world when it comes to issues like the Iraq war, but perhaps they aren't completely evil and motivated by all the destructive intent the war's results would suggest.

I'm not saying that's how it is, but perhaps...

The impulse to destroy is inherently evil as far as I'm concerned, so you're either giving them too much credit or not enough, depending on how you look at it.
